Stavgard is a unique place on the south Gotland in Burs parish. The area is rich in finds from the iron age. Just next to Stavgard you can find the ruins of the largest longhouse in Sweden, 67 meters long. It is said that this is the home of the hero Beowulf , it burnt in the middle of the sixth century, so perhaps it´s true. Stavgard itself is a iron age village with emphasis on the era popularly called the viking age. There are several reconstructed buildings and during the summer thousands of tourists visit the village to see how people lived a long time ago. Here you hear the hammer strike the anvil, you can take part in one of our daily workshops, carving runes, woodworking, textile or why not try archery. If you just want to relax you can listen to the story about the great Stavar or if you want action you can look at a show fight, were our warriors combat each other twice a week. Experience what it was to be a viking, experience the magic!
Stavgard needs hosts every summer, July and August and we are also looking for teachers for our children camps, May and June. Are you interested hit the button below.
